About Michael
Michael is a recognised expert in property law. He has, since 2014, chaired the advisory committee that accredits lawyers as property specialists for the Law Society of New South Wales.
In a career of more than 35 years he has overseen literally thousands of transactions concerning the acquisition, development, management and sale of property. There are few property scenarios Michael has not seen. A description of some of the work he does and the people he works for is below.
Experience has taught Michael the importance of paying real attention to what clients want. Michael helps people articulate and implement commercial solutions in property law that are innovative, effective and efficient.
What he does
A significant part of Michael’s practice involves property development. This includes structures like development management and syndication agreements, and the common arrangements for acquiring land such as call options, put and call options and agreements for lease.
The Riverwood North Urban Renewal Project (now known as Washington Park) is an example of Michael’s work. He acted for the developer in a private public development with the New South Wales government and the local council. The project spanned a decade and comprised rehabilitation and infrastructure, the construction and sale of almost a thousand dwellings, and the delivery of a public library as part of a voluntary planning agreement.
Michael’s practice includes financing and mortgages, strata and community title, easements and covenants, duty, land tax and GST, and due diligence for both purchasers and vendors. It also includes commercial and retail leasing for building owners and tenants, and the common transactions associated with leasing.
Michael oversees the residential conveyancing team at Osbornes Lawyers.
Michael provides expert opinion evidence on property issues for litigants.
He has broad experience in general commercial work, including shareholder agreements, the sale and purchase of businesses and wills and estates.
